Fatfat Won’t Resign, Defends his Security Services’ Negligence:Treacherous Hand Assassinates Minister Pierre Gemayel Using “Mafia” Style
anonymous source and affiliation, reached the peak of criminality and professionalism by mastering the methods of killing and physical elimination while assassinating the Minister of Industry, Member of Parliament, and politburo member of the Lebanese Phalanges Party, 34-year-old Pierre Gemayel. The terrorist group fired at him, using automatic machine guns, equipped with silencers, as he drove by with his car in Jdaide area, which is one of the densely populated areas with frequent traffic congestion. He was killed instantly along with his body guard Samir Shartouni.
As usual, the branch of the public relations of the General Directorate of Internal Security, until now has not issued a security statement on this heinous crime, which is out of the ordinary for the law that stipulates the addressing of all kinds of open crimes even if it is the stealing of an ordinary motorcycle. Therefore, what of the case of a monstrous crime of this kind that can mirror rippling effects on the internal political arena?
The security stories and scenarios that were leaked to the local press multiplied with conflicting reports. The acting Minister of Internal Security, Ahmad Fatfat, who works for the unconstitutional government of Fouad Siniora, emerged to cover up the negligence of the internal security forces which failed in providing the necessary security to preserve the life of one of his colleagues of the same government and the same February 14 forces.
Lacking sense and responsibility, Fatfat said that his “conscience” was at rest. On the contrary, he should at least have resigned—an act which decent people in modern countries would adopt.
Fatfat failed in protecting his peer and failed in inventing any logical and rational justification for the negligence of the officials of his security apparatuses, particularly the forces of the internal security coupled with its informatics branch that tightens its grip on the county and the peoples` necks.
There is also the general directorate that provides security to the state and must protect the political, religious and judicial figures.
But as it seems, the position or the chair is more important than friendship, colleagueship, and companionship. This issue was firstly apparent when as soon as the news on the crime circulated, Fatfat remained in the Qraitem residence to continue observing the press conference of his president Saadeddine Hariri, and didn`t take the necessary steps to be instantly present on the crime scene and supervise the trueness of what happened in the broad daylight of a horrific day in Lebanon.
In order to approach the concomitants of this crime, Minister Gemayel was giving his condolences on Tuesday in Jdaide area. It was said that he was in Dagir family’s house or inside a church. Later, he departed at around 15:20, riding his silver “Kia” car. His bodyguard Samir Shartouni and the element of the State’s Security apparatus, Maroun Sasin, were accompanying him. He was heading for his home in Rabye.
The perpetrators chased him traveling in a black “Honda” jeep with a false number plate. The car overtook him for a short distance and then its driver intentionally hit the breaks after which two gunmen carrying silenced machine guns came out of the car and approached Gemayel to riddle him with bullets at close range. As soon as they were certain of his death, they returned quickly to their getaway vehicle where a driver waited and fled the scene to an unknown destination. The incident took place in front of a number of citizens and bystanders who were shocked by this James Bond type film, which was real without any montage or tricks. As usual, the security service was absent and was late in arriving at the scene.
This crime necessitated several questions and explanations:
One: The incident took place after one and half years of the “Februarist forces” tightened grip on the security of the country—where they established a new security system that is more repressive than its predecessor. This system was unable to prevent the crime or frustrate the terrorist plan in a country which because of the openness of these forces became a stage for all the different security and intelligence apparatuses, Arab and foreign equally. Some of them are acting under the cover of humanitarian organizations, civil foundations and hospitals. Does the role of this system confine to the pursuing and observation of political and social public meetings which the opposition conducts? Alternatively, does its duty oblige it to predict the anticipated crimes and prevent them from occurring by closely observing the evil dens which it must discover?
Two: The Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea spoke a short while ago saying that someone was planning to assassinate ministers and MPs, but didn`t give further details about the source of this information. Later, deputy LF leader Antoine Zahra said that this tip was quoted from governmental sources. Does this mean that officials in the government were aware of this information that was identical to the two-month-old words of the U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice? Besides, why they did not ask the ministers and MPs to take necessary precautions and increase security measures during their public and secret movements since this information was positive and serious? Moreover, why did they not provide the security and judicial services with this information in order to carry out their duties and frustrate the terrorizing plan and stop it from progressing? Alternatively, do the “Februarist forces” prefer to wait the occurrence of the killing in order to invest it and display themselves as a victim? Must Lebanon be built through the language of killing and political employment of the blood?!
Three: Why does MP Walid Junblat always have prior knowledge about decisions concerning assassinations? Has he become a predictor or does he knoweth the unseen? Alternatively, he can master the language for which he was famous during the civil war, dragging the country into sedition!
Four: Who benefited from the assassination of Pierre Gemayel who was restructuring the Phalanges party which he inherited from his ancestors, qualifying him to at least build his role in the Christian street, particularly that his public is the same public of the “Lebanese Forces”?
Five: It is not strange when foreign hands exist behind this crime because they benefit from maintaining tensions in Lebanon, awaiting every chance to execute their plans each time an entitlement (proving one worthy) emerges in order to employ it in their political accusations which the “Februarist forces” master with quality. For instance, on December 12, 2005, the day that the international investigation panel was readying to deliver, to the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, its report on the assassination of the martyred Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, journalist Jobran Tweini was assassinated. The same scene repeats again, which is also related to the assassination of Hariri and mirrored serious political, security, economic and social effects on the country. For example, the day when the Security Council was discussing the approval of establishing the quasi-international court, minister Gemayel was likewise assassinated.
Six: Why would the “Februarist forces” rush to exploit the crimes politically and accuse Syria without presenting any substantial evidence to support their instigative words and would not even once point the finger of accusation at other countries and intelligence apparatuses such as that of the “Mossad”, the agent of which Mahmoud Rafei, who is in custody of the justice, admitted that his partner Hussein Khattab was behind implanting the bomb that claimed the life of George Hawi, whose history is full of resisting the Zionist enemy?
